Rawia is an Arabic name and means a female storyteller.
She grew up between Lebanon and Ghana being different from everyone else around her.
She has always been curious, and developed a lot of empathy for everyone who was impacted by discrimination of all sorts.
Rawia’s story got me curious because her reinvention stemmed from her personal experience while she was seeking support for herself. Once she experienced therapy, she cherished self awareness, and saw it as one of the fundamental seeds of transformation.
She explains how naturally growing up we tend to lose the innate spontaneity of the child. Therapy helps to reconnect with that natural spontaneous child you were, opening up channels that were blocked before. It helps to bring up enthusiasm, confidence and creativity so that the individual transforms her/himself.
Stubborness about our past life
“WHEN YOU CHANGE PROFESSION YOU DO TAKE SOMETHING FROM WHATEVER YOU HAVE DONE BEFORE, PHARMACY HAS ANALYTICAL SKILLS INVOLVED. NOW I AM TRANSACTION ANALYSIS COACH, AND I DO USE ANALYTICAL SKILLS IN THE NEW PROFESSION”
Many of us hold on to what has been the main profession during our life, because we feel we have invested in it so much: time, money and efforts that would be a shame to leave it behind.
Rawia felt the same, thinking about how much her family invested in her education. So we stubbornly hold on to some profession we know does not fulfil us. But Rawia shares that there are aspects of her life, together with talents and skills that she owns that are never really used.
Pharmacy uses analytical skills, similarly Rawia uses analytical skills to understand a personal situation and the emotional implications. Also when supporting them to find the solution to their problems.
RAWIA’S TIP: IT’S IMPORTANT TO BE FLEXIBLE, ADAPTABLE AND OPEN TO THE NOTION THAT WE CAN DO LOTS MORE THAN WE THINK WE CAN
EXPLORE IDEAS, TALK TO PEOPLE THAT ARE ALREADY IN THE PROFESSION YOU ASPIRE TO HAVE. DON’T BE AFRAID TO FAIL
Rawia’s Career change: From Pharmacist to Counselor
Rawia opens up about her childhood dream of helping people, initially considering a career in medicine. She eventually became a pharmacist. But overtime some personal struggles led her to seek support. Rawia doesn’t shy away from discussing a loss in her family and a personal event that triggered depression.
The Power of Vulnerability: Therapy as a Tool for Growth
Rawia discovers NLP and transactional analysis. These modalities became catalysts for her own healing and eventually led her to pursue a career in counseling. This powerful transformation underscores the potential for therapy to not only heal individuals but also inspire a complete career shift.
We discussed the importance of incorporating personal experiences and beliefs into professional work. Rawia shares how her own therapy journey has enriched her work as a counsellor.
The Winding Road to Success
Rawia uses the metaphor of a winding road to describe her journey towards achieving her goals. She acknowledges that there were obstacles and challenges, but these experiences ultimately helped her learn and grow. She references the movie “Sliding Doors” to illustrate how seemingly small choices can have a significant impact on life’s trajectory.
